Tips for Avoiding Coronavirus

You’ve probably heard and read tips to stave off catching COVID-19 about a hundred times now, but as more cases keep popping up across the country, and the globe for that matter, it doesn’t hurt to get a little reminder. The safer you are, the safer others are, and we can get back to a sense of normalcy (and spending time with one another outside of video chat rooms), quicker.

The big and basic rule to follow is social distancing and sheltering-in-place. People can be asymptomatic carries, meaning that they won’t show any symptoms of the virus, nor feel sick, but will be equally as contagious. Going out to the super market without a mask and/or after touching your mouth means you could spread it to countless other people for days after your visit, as the virus can live on surfaces for days. Many cities have issued rules to wear masks in public places, such as (again) supermarkets; this helps stop the spread of the virus in saliva droplets.

By staying home, you minimize and mitigate your chances of coming in contact with someone who does have the virus, or a surface that someone with the virus touched. It’s better to be healthy in your home, than coughing and gasping for air as the coronavirus attacks your lungs, making it difficult to breathe.

Wash your clothes and shower after you’ve gone out. The virus can cling to fabric and you skin for some time, so it’s better to be safe than sorry by washing all of it. Think of it as a way to pass the time if you’re bored while staying in your home.

Disinfect any items you buy, and/or receive. Like we mentioned, the virus can survive on surfaces for days — all it takes is a quick wipe with Lysol or other disinfectant, such as a diluted bleach solution, to ensure your safety and the safety of others in your home.

Follow these simple tips and you’ll increase your odds of getting through this pandemic without contracting the virus. Additionally, we’d like to note that you can contract the virus again; you do not build up an immunity to it if you contract it and recover.
