A car accident case that has captured local headlines has finally been brought to a close, as a settlement has reportedly been accepted. The case, which involved a rollover accident caused by a minor, was filed in May 2015.
According to court documents, the rollover auto accident occurred in 2014 and resulted in the plaintiff – a young woman – being partially ejected from her vehicle. While the plaintiff was reportedly not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision, the other motorist (i.e., the minor) was cited for careless driving resulting in injury following the wreck.
The plaintiff, who has spent more than a year recovering, suffered traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and bone fractures in the crash. She is now paralyzed from the waist down and will have to use a wheelchair for the rest of her life.
As the Aspen Times reported, the plaintiff’s parents had been opposed to accepting a settlement offer. However, when District Judge Chris Seldin stopped the court proceedings to allow the family to discuss the offer privately, the rollover victim reportedly said the following:
Enough…I don’t want this to go on. I don’t care about the money. I’m going to be productive I’m going to make my own life. I mostly want this to be over. I’m planning on making my own living.
The terms of the settlement remain confidential.
